Competition Format

The competition will be run in three stages:

Stage 1

Fifty bands will be accepted for the competition. Each band will get a listing on the Climbthetail.com website in the order the applicartions are received.

As soon as the entry list reaches 50 the entry process will cease.

The MySpace profile views total, plays total and friends totals will be noted for each band and the competition will commence.

Should any bands subsequently drop out of the competition we may invite more entrants. We will announce this on the website and via a MySpace bulletin. The first eligible entries received will be accepted.

Nine bands will be selected to go through to stage 2.

The selection process for top nine bands (Stage 1)

The 50 bands' MySpace figures will be notified at the time the competition commences and noted again when stage 1 finishes on Monday 01 October 2007 at 8am.
The nine bands with the highest scores will be sent an email requesting confirmation of their availability to perform at the final should they be successful in reaching the final six, and inviting them to proceed to stage 2
Bands go through to stage 2 subject to them replying to the email to indicate their availability
Website updated to announce the successful bands and update the Bands Table. The bands will be listed in points order
Each successful band given a profile page on the website with a link from the bands table

The selection process for the six finalists (Stage 2)

SMS voting will be started as soon as the nine bands are confirmed and will run until 02 January 2008 at 12.00 noon
The finalists will be selected based on their total number of text votes and their MySpace statistics. (See details below)
The six successful bands will be sent an email requesting confirmation of their availability to perform at the final
Selection is subject to the bands being available for the final. The successful bands will be contacted and given the opportunity to decline at this stage. If bands decline, their places will be offered to the band with the next highest score
As soon as the six finalists have been confirmed their MySpace profile views, plays and new friends will be logged
Website updated to announce the successful bands and update the Bands Table. The bands will be listed in points order

Selection process details

Stage 1

The maximum possible points total will be 100.

The points will be awarded as follows:

Points will be awarded based on the increase on the bands' MySpace figures since the competition start date. 100 points will be awarded for the best results and the other bands will receive points calculated as a percentage of this figure.

Stage 2

The maximum possible points total will be 200.

1. MySpace Assessment: Points will be awarded based on the increase on their figures since the competition start date. 100 points will be awarded for the best results and the other bands will receive points calculated as a percentage of this figure.

2. Text Vote: The other 100 points will be awarded from the number of text votes received. See the Text Vote page for further details. 100 points will be awarded for the best results and the other bands will receive points calculated as a percentage of this figure.

The Final

Each band will play up to four songs in a set of no more than 20 minutes. Bands will play in the reverse order of their positions in the bands table. (Band number six plays first).

The winner will be decided from their performances on the night.

The judging panel will comprise representatives from the sponsoring companies and others who may be invited by the organisers. Details will be announced later.
