Tips for increasing your MySpace visits

The first thing to appreciate is that your MySpace page is your most important marketing tool. It is probably the most valuable thing you will ever get for free ... but only if you make good use of it.

Your aim should be to retain people who visit your page. You want them to remember you and to want to tell their friends about you.

Here are some suggestions you might find useful:

Avoid backgrounds that obscure the text or make it difficult to read. This is probably the most common fault on MySpace pages.
Avoid text colours that are difficult to read
Make sure the music files you upload are the best quality you can produce
Upload a separate image for each song and try to be original. If possible, the image should relate to the song. Anything that represents the mood of the song is likely to be remembered
For your pictures section, only upload pictures that are relevant. Upload a good selection of pictures that capture the image you want to project
Make use of the slide show feature so that your images are seen on the main page. The more interesting and relevant you images are, the better the slide show will be.
Use the Band Members section to tell people as much as possible about the band. If you just list the names you are missing an opportunity
Put plenty of detail in the Upcoming Shows section - do your best to encourage people to want to come to your shows and also tell their friends
Write regular blogs to keep people informed about what you are doing. Your fans will subscribe to you blogs if you are keeping them up to date. Try to make the blogs interesting, amusing and of value to your fans. Tell them about releases, special offers etc.
